Send an encouraging message to Tydwbleach...

If you read the post below, you will see that that Tyd has had a pretty bad week. She's kind of a sad panda, but you would be, too, if your house exploded. Please leave her an encouraging note, if you want, below.

As background, I have never met Tyd, though we are both from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Thus, we share many of the same cultural touchpoints, such as the Saga of Chilly Willy the Demonic Penguin, and Sir Graves Ghastly. She stumbled on the blog while looking for my brother, whom she did know. But, once she stumbled aboard, she stuck around and now is one of my favorite writers-- kind of the Erma Bombeck for a new generation. She lives in Canby, Oregon, with her husband, Bill, who is a luthier. Now, I never knew what a luthier was, either, until now... but you can check out his web site here.

Comments:
Tyd posted this (in response to the Virginia Tech shootings) just as I was putting this stuff on:

I do know one thing, that here in Canby, Oregon, where they have stores that sell baby chickens, and a Dairy Queen where there should be a Kinko's, that good human spirit and generosity is alive and thriving. Spencer has been attending his preschool for a total of one month and yet all of the parents got together and got him all kinds of toys and clothes and books. The Red Cross was immediately available, and would not leave our side until the insurance co showed up and made sure we had a place to go. Our neighbors gave us car seats to use and took our dog in and gave us everything we could possibly need.

What I am saying is, there are two ways you can look at life, as if the glass is half full or half empty. That guy's glass I think was completely empty. He took it out on everyone, but the world will go one perfectly well without him.

Tydwbleach--

Can we send you, like, a Baylor Giant Sippy cup or something? Or a mock trial team?

Hi Tyd -

I've been enjoying your many very creative posts over these past few months and am very saddened by the photos of your house blowing up! I'm glad you hadn't put up the Pewabic tiles yet!

When you said here about the glass being half full... I hope you are realizing that sometimes despite each of our's feeling of being alone sometimes - people reach out and make the glass full of the good stuff - friendship, caring and love. Even when we've lost seemingly everything...

Your comment about living at the Residence Inn as well as the Virginia Tech shootings recall an accident at William and Mary when the Prof and I were there - as well as a few other post-ers here. That is when Jefferson dorm burned due to an electrical fire and all the residents had to move to a local hotel. Fortunately, the fire didn't claim any lives, only images of lives. It was powerful to see the carcass of the building and the icicles on the trees from the efforts to put it out. And, gratifying to see how the school and local communities came together to help these kids - they were freshmen - and one of the local hotels became an impromptu dorm. Plus calls from frantic parents worrying about their kids... us... Fortunately, everyone was alright - but the images live on...

I think you should take that job at Mrs. CL's now! :)

Yeah, that was an incredible fire... and people were there for us just like they have been there for the Chapins.

Tyd-- you rock. I have to confess, I am kind of fascinated by explosions generally, but maybe not in the house. This blog is definitely the place to go if you need help from trademark lawyers, opera singers, decadent egoists, Oslers, Anonymous, Meatloaf, the Swiss, or law students taking finals...

Kenny--

I wish that group was some kind of crime-fighting team... you know, with an Opera Singer, a trademark lawyer, a decadant egoist, and Meatloaf, only they are all mutants.

Tyd, you should DEFINITELY take the CL internship now. If not, should I send the box o' white zinfandel to the Residence Inn, Canby, OR, c/o Donut? If you ever do get to lovely Waco, the CL casa is your casa, the whole dang crew, dog included!

Seriously, I am so glad you guys are safe. Please keep us updated and know that we are sending good thoughts your way.

You are definitely a glass is half-full kinda girl. Chin up and power through it, I hope that you get the Prius after all.

Dear Tyd,

Last time I tried to go to Oregon I lost three oxen, my food spoiled and little Jimmy caught dysentery.

Keep Your Head Up,

Swanburg

OMG You guys are HILARIOUS!!!! hey can Bill be on the crime fighting team? You will need a guy to make guitars ALSO I can do voiceovers for the commercials.

ok here is an update the dog is at the hotel with us now.. SPencer's fire engine bed is coming tonight, also I have a double strand of oldlady pearls they were my grandmother's and I wore them to a job interview on like Wed I took them off inthe kitchen, and put them in a little basket on the windowsill while I was making dinner. When it blew up My pearls went FLYING literally across the back yard but today BILL FOUND THEM!!!!!!!

as usual, our neighbors are RIGHT there, helping us dig out of all this stuff and rescue important things like photos my diplomas, baby pics stuff like this.

Those guys were SOOOO excited to find those pearls because they are nerdy but I remember when I was SPencer's age playing with them as she wore them I waS SO CLOSE TO HER. oK ALSO THE NEIGHBORS ARE ALLPUTTING A LOT OF OUR STUFF IN THEIR GARAGES STUFF WE WILL NEED LATER LIKE spENCER'S JEEP., TWO BIKES AND HIS WAGON. crap caps loc In turn we will have NO USE for brand new patio furniture this summer so we are gonna distribute it all among them along with our play structure and have then use it this summer til we have a house again.

People who do not know our "hood say ARE YOU GONNA STAY THERE???? absolutely. they are all THE BEST>

On the legal side there are stages of grief you go thru I was shocked, panicky, scared, sad dicouraged but something about today waking up in a hotel even thoughI KNOW we are all okay... we are sitting there IN THE RAIN, pouring thru PILES of crap in the mud and soot and leftover pieces of an interrupted life, and now I am just getting MAD MAD MAD I will not get better but I have to tell you I am getting really PISSED OFF this could TOTALLY have been prevented and I mean this was the phone cos fault Bills biz is gonna be terrible for a long time we are out of our house and neighborhood for a year or more, our lives are disrupted, we lost a LOT of stuff, I had to go to the hospital, and go on tranquilizers just to deal, and we came with in about 8 minuts of serious injury or DEATH> SPencer could have been an ORPHAN>

So now I am in the COMPLETELY ANGRY stage of this. I am starting to think I REALLLLLLLLY need a lawyer. The city, the gas co, the police, the fire, EVERYONE knows that this was totally the fault of Canby telecom. Happy to be alive but I am ready to just get the people who did this to totally just you know.. whatever they need to do to make things okay for us again. Two cars and one house gone is a LOT compounded with loss of income and just I cannot wrote anymore I am just pissed off.

PLUS they BLEW UP MY TIVO!!!!!!

I have to NOT think about it. I have to go get more minutes on our cell phones

Hey, Tyd-- have you seen the movie "Are we done Yet?" Well, don't. It's about trying to rebuild a house in suburban Portland, only with Ice Cube instead of your husband Bill...

Tyd,
Given that you're good with our senses of humor....

your house AND Tivo blow up, and you husband's evil Expedition/Explorer is intact??? There really is no justice.

P.S. Sooooo glad that you and family are safe.

Tyd,
I can sympathize with your anger, it is justified. For me, the worst mistake someone can make is to threaten my family. Your unique sense of humor and abundant love for your family make you a favorite commentator (comment-tater?) in my book. Keep your chin up and take comfort in the love of those around you. And seriously, like half of Waco is cheering you on.

Hmmm.. There must be a way to throw in a joke about Waco and explosions..

Anyhow, Tyd, Wow! Glad to hear you're OK and that you are angry. You should be! Anger is a motivator and with luck it will motivate you in many positive ways.

Like I said below, the Phone Company will certainly have lawyers on this. You should too.

tired panda is my favorite reused pic of yours

Tyd, I'm so glad y'all are okay. Thank God that guy at least came and told you to get out, but still. I can't believe how bad that is, a gas leak that big.

Can I send you some Swiss chocolate? I mean, we have REALLY good stuff here. Seriously.

Oh, and I think it's great you're angry. It's got to be healthy, given what happened.

And you've got some kick-ass lawyers giving you advice already, so let them take care of you.

I admire how positive you are. Thanks for enriching our lives.

Dear Tyd,
I just got back from Long Beach, California (some of which could benefit from blowing up), so I had no idea that your house had been blown up. I went to Long Beach w/o a jacket and they set records for the coldest days in April in a hundred years--go figure. Have you contacted Habib at Home Depot about this setback in your home remodeling efforts? He might want to know. I give thanks to God that you and your family were not injured or killed. You can always rebuild--and you will--but you cannot replace people. I know that may seem trivial now as you sort through all your pulverized, ruined stuff, but maybe you will be motivated in the future to have less stuff? Get a good lawyer, maybe a whole team, in fact. Compensation can't solve every problem, but it does help. Maybe between Osler and myself we can get a couple Anna Nicole Smith Memorial Sippy Cups in the mail this week. Oh, wait, you don't have an address anymore. We'll work on it.

Chin up, Tyd.
