Political Mayhem Thursday: Democrats to the left or center?
After left-wing Democratic Socialists swept multiple Democratic US House primaries in the New York City area, the NY Times is wondering if the party as a whole will hew to the left or the center as the mid-terms approach.
The answer, of course, is both, and that is probably a good thing.
The results in New York mostly involved heavily progressive districts in the first place, and it seems that a single issue-- support for Israel-- had outsized importance as public sentiment has swung against that country in the wake of its actions in Gaze, the West Bank and Lebanon.
Meanwhile, in many parts of the country, centrist Dems are looking strong. What's developing isn't a cunundrum, it is a coalition-- and that is the best thing of all for the Democratic Party.
