I wonder about the institutions that are doing the new administration's bidding without being asked. Yesterday, the White House issued a press release that included this:

I did not consciously choose to leave higher education. However, I am growing increasingly glad that I am doing so. And that is a sentence I never thought I would be writing.
The beliefs, tenets, principles, etc., we have traditionally held precious in higher education are gradually being whittled away. Higher ed is being killed by a thousand cuts.
I do not yet know if my new industry – historical societies – will be better at resisting political winds. But I do believe that because of its focus on history, my new job will be much less susceptible to political influence.
I could be wrong. And if I am, I’ll have to deal with it.
