The muted colors
Autumn arrives on cat feet here-- you have to really look for it. Now there are some reds here and there, splashes of yellow, and some leaves on the ground. It was a dry summer, so the colors are muted in many places.
But I look.
I am riding my bike into work today: through the quiet neighborhoods, past the little shops that line 44th, then around the lake where I can glimpse my destination through the red and yellow and green. The canopy over the greenway will have those flashes, as will the path through Loring Park. There will be one tree, red, glorious, a sentinel and guide. Here, we know what comes next, the long long winter, and we hide our nuts in secret holes to make it through.
