Sunday Reflection: Our life's work
My dad, who died in March, left behind so many paintings-- some in progress, but mostly completed-- that constitute much of his life's work. He struggled with how to market them. He didn't trust agents and galleries, but without them his paintings too often ended up in his studio, the garage, or the basement.
Of course, many or even most of us are like that to some degree. Insofar as I am a writer, I have so much that I never sent out. Some of it wasn't good, of course, but some of it was. In those instances, I just couldn't figure out what to do with it.
In Matthew 5, Jesus says this:
People do not light a lamp and put it under the bushel basket; rather, they put it on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
That's so true! We have a duty to put our life's work out there. It's a kind of bravery, really-- and we all need a dose of it now and then.

If any of the paintings are ever listed for sale or even just displayed online anywhere, I'd love to see them!
