Sunday Reflection: The Drama of it All

2020... the gift that just keeps on giving.

We all know that this year is crazy. Our lives have been tossed around by a pandemic, an economic collapse, the weirdest and perhaps worst election campaign of my lifetime... it just goes on and on.

What happens when it all ends? Will we be able to go back to normal, or has "normal" been recalibrated?

Some will say that this has happened before. The Greatest Generation survived the worst depression in the nation's history, the dust bowl, and the most cataclysmic war in the past 100 years-- all in the span of little more than a decade.

After it was over, they sought normalcy and stability-- and the good part of that was the remarkable social institutions that they began and sustained. I saw it myself in my grandparents.

Will we do that? Are we ready to build social institutions, businesses, churches, and communities-- in real life, not online-- to replace the ones that will be lost? If so, it will take creativity above all else, and dedication and sacrifice.

But if we don't, we will be lost in a land without community, disparate entities spinning through cyberspace. And our souls don't cry out for that.
