The Death of Fred Hampton

I suspect that many readers have never heard of Fred Hampton, who was killed by the Chicago Police almost 50 years ago, when he was 21. He was a young leader of the Black Panther movement, and a socialist long before socialism entered the political mainstream in the United States once Bernie Sanders ran for president.

A long time ago, I came across a little bit of film of Hampton speaking, and I understand why people found him so compelling-- and the establishment found him so dangerous. For some reason, there was a flurry of social media postings about Hampton recently, and it seemed the right time to share a little of the message he sent out. It is still compelling, even for those who do not agree with all or some of it, because it goes to the key questions in our nation-- then and now.

Comments:
socialism re-entered the political mainstream.

And if the Democrats want to maintain any sort of post-Trump momentum after the current occupant of the White House exits the stage, they need get this pollutant out of their water system quickly.

Thanks to Bernie Sanders and now Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez the ice cream promises of socialism tempt the unwary voter once again. But if there had been some other credible alternative to Hillary for the Democratic Party in 2016, Bernie would have been a kooky outlier. And if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wasn't cute, no one would care. Since she's attractive, she gets press. I am sure there are several incoming Freshman Members of Congress with better ideas and more depth than her, but they aren't nearly as eye catching.. nor do they say outrageous things, like make up a Trump-like figure of a $21 billion accounting error.
