Up now at MSNBC...
Nkechi Taifa and I have a piece up at MSNBC, on race and clemency. I worry that we have lost track of the important tool that clemency can be to correct racially disparate outcomes we have seen for decades-- discrepancies that have done nothing to solve an problem, and have caused deep and enduring pain and division.
It was an honor to write the piece with one of my heroes. Nkechi Taifa has been a tremendously successful advocate, and has gotten results that matter-- among other projects, she led the way in getting rid of the 100-1 ratio between crack and powder in federal sentencing via the 2010 Fair Sentencing Act.
