Honestly, I think Miami University in Oxford, OH should make the list. Everyone knows that Miami is in FL and Oxford is in England.

Faber College is somewhere in Tennessee - check the fraternity court scene - both the American and Tennessee flags are displayed.

I always figured Faber's admission requirements hinged on being able to figure out exactly where it is. If you figure that out, you get admitted.
 

I'll bet IPLawGuy knows where it is-- he is an expert on Faber College.
 

Until 2000, I would have said Beaver College, in the Philadelphia area. But they got tired of the ridicule and changed the name to Arcadia.
 

Hmmmm... Now I have to check out the Court scene again. But I do know that Animal House was filmed at the University of Oregon.

East Carolina University is sort of a silly name.

Furman university in SC. And just when you think their mascot would be a furry man, it's a paladin. Sounds like they might have a course in how to play "Cones of Denshire."
 

I've never thought of Furman that way! But now I will. For whatever reason "Brown University" just cracks me up.

Miami University in Ohio is so named after the Miami tribe of native Americans, who lived in the area, and for whom two rivers are named. The name was stolen and applied to a patch of sand on a sinking peninsula because a few of the so named native Americans were relocated to that area. Miami University was founded in 1809, before what is now called Miami (city of) was anything but a patch of sand.

At one time, there were three Ph.D. granting universities in the U.S. One of them was Miami University, and at one point, roughly one-third of all university presidents had been students at Miami University.


 

A bit about Brown U. Named after a Baptist, its 250th anniversary is this week, and it was celebrated in this way 150 years ago: "the war is going well enough for the Union that American Baptists can take the time to celebrate a joyous anniversary this week: the 100th anniversary of Rhode Island Baptists’ Brown University, an occasion recognized in the university town of Providence." Re Miami University.

So the name was "stolen" from a tribe of Ohio Native Americans! Imagine that. They should do the right thing and give it back.

Arce - I am a proud 1984 grad of Miami (as we use to say - Miami's in Ohio, damn it) and a proud Redskin (not the current politically correct Red Hawk).

The tribe Miami was named for still has a reservation in NE Oklahoma...
