A broomball haiku?!?

Sleepy Walleye knows how to haiku, and he had me at "broomball":

An old-fashioned broom
Ready to be shaped into
A broomball weapon

This gift from my dad
Said, "You are now invited
to play with the men"

Maybe because I was one of those other players, I loved this haiku...

Comments:
As I thought about what special material gift I had received during my prime childhood Christmas years, the broom stood out as most memorable. My Dad is a broomball broom fanatic. His own broom was a work of art. Yards of various tapes and pounds of epoxy. No one else was allowed to touch it. He had it for years. I was thrilled when he gave me my own broom. I must have been 14. It was just like his, yet the process of forging to something worthy of playing on Green Lake was up to me. I found it unwrapped, leaning against the fireplace mantle next to my Christmas stocking, with a tag attached. - To: Ev
From: Dad. Definitely one of the greatest gifts ever.

Sleepy Walleye's dad, Jacque Piké, was a broomball legend. Known for his slapshot, his sharp elbows, and his handsome broom. He was a member of the famed East Side team that went undefeated for many years until the approval and use of commercial broomball shoes.

I love this haiku, too, as well as my son for writing it.
