Maribelle Winslowe III

So, Sally is really being mean to poor Geoffrey!  Not that he doesn't deserve it, I'm sure...

So, whoever "Maribelle Winslow III" is (and I have my hunches), I thank her for this halloween reflection:

She was Celtic Saint
Gobnait in cloak bee buttons
Pinned on.No one answered door.

'Course she was 60
At the time. The kids asked who
She was. Hard to explain.

One usually dresses
As a sinner for Halloween.
No one informed her.

Comments:
I hesitate to mention it,Professor Osler, but you have misspelled my surname, which is fine old and distinguished. I am a scholar of Celtic literature and lore in Providence. I developed my interest in haiku via my Japanese husband Ono San,who is skilled in impressionist painting and has an atelier in Tokyo.I extend abundant kudos for this scintillating and eclectic blog.

Oops! Sorry-- I will fix that.

The spelling police on this blog is super nice and we like it that way!

What do you mean by "we",Young Man? I assure you,I do not give a flying fig how you spell...only do spell Winslowe properly. Wouldn't want to upset the revered ancestors, now would we? But I am sure you are absolutely adorable in every other way. Got to run and get the Bentley buffed. Ta ta for now! How droll!

Dear Maribelle,
I apologize for "we" so there... I personally like the super nice spelling police at the Razor.
And since I had to spell out my position I sure have to own it.
Sincerely yours,
(the not so young, most certainly not a man)
Marta

What if I spelled your name "Mertle." Heavens to Betsy,my dear girl! I have never found a posting from you to have any soggy spelling. Rejoice and spell boldly! But correctly. You think me to be a stickler on bad spelling... I am death on poor grammar! Although even I tend to give myself free rein occasionally. One does so loathe being accused of being a "fuddy duddy." Au revoir,Marta.

Marta didn't get your name wrong, I did!

But, if you are a woman, how do you have a "III?"

You have a plethora of penetrating questions for a chap who hails from New Jersey! Maribelle has often been a popular name amongst my father's family for female children. Since Winslowe is such an elegant and time -honored name, these young ladies never changed their names when they married. Should men be the only ones of the race to acquire Roman numerals? Roman numerals positively radiate elegance. My great-grandfather's daughter was Maribelle Winslowe I,My grandfather's daughter was Maribelle Winslowe II...and I,of course,am Maribelle Winslowe III. And now,My Dear Boy,I am incredibly exhausted from explaining this and will herewith take my tea on the chaise in the library,a book of Keats in my lap.

Listen Osler--I keep trying to tell you: Geoff sucks. You would not be so thrilled if Geoff caused your hair to seem to spontaneously combust by lighting his Camel (of course he smokes!) a little too close to your newly coiffed do. Or when he brought home the entire squad of Southwest cheerleaders as a birthday gift to me (please don't make me go there!). If he
weren't so damn cute... I am not mean...a little bitchy at times, but not mean...I simply state the unvarnished truth...the guy has the mind of a sieve...or noodle.
