Haiku Friday: Politics!

We've had some good political discussions here of late, but we never haiku about that.  Interpret the subject freely-- you can write about a political event, and election, the institution as a whole, the kind of discussions we have, whatever.  It's all good.

Here is mine:

Some care a lot, and
Others not at all, but still...
What we choose matters.

Now it is your turn.  Make it 5 syllables/7 syllables/5 syllables, and have some fun with it!

Comments:
Why do people vote
Against their self-interest?
Protect their money?

Hail, Democracy!
Logically, it should not work,
but it has so far.

Does politics still
Belong to the People or
Have we lost our way?

Rudders can turn ships,
but some ships are well equipped
with mighty engines.

All that I hear is...
"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."
Just say what you mean.

They say never talk
politics or religion
when dining with friends

Despite this adage
conversations always turn
fueled by the wine

Our politicians
Opt for career and power
Over citizens.

When it becomes more
Important to get moola
From the wealthiest ...

When it becomes more
Important to get the dough
From the NRA ...

When drawing screwy
Maps trumps representation
Of varying minds ...

We lose compromise
We lose civility and
Civilization.

We lose tomorrow.
We lose our children’s children
On this ill planet.

An independent,
Voting red and white and blue
Before tea party,

Began voting blue,
Black, and non-pitbull women
To save the country.

Now on hiatus.
Six years of daily focus
Made her desolate.

So if I can change the subject briefly. I really look forward to these haiku Friday's. You all have given me something of a new hobby, and at a time I sorely needed one. (I'll be starting my third year at St. Thomas in the fall.)

I wrote this last week after being reminded of a tree I had long since forgotten. But when Osler brought up the subject, it was that tree that immediately came to mind.

So here's a haiku in thanks.

Keep up the great work, all of you! I love what you write.

A Blue Collar Kid

A blue collar kid
with a spotty education.
Whats a haiku?

And whats a haiku
to do with a prof like this?
O’ That does make sense.

(He had us looking up artwork for our first day of Crim Law)

Had to google it
the first time, still do to spell.
First attempts? So so.

Repeat and try again.
Read, listen hard, catch on to
what is really said.

Rhyme and punctuate. (as you see fit)
Close the law books and enjoy,
a brief reprieve, joy.

Thank you, all of you,
for giving me, something new.
Appreciation.

anything funnier than
Texas politics"

North Carolina
politics turn my stomach
Toss the jokers out....

p.s. David Best; we are happy to have you here and enjoy reading your Haiku's as well.

His face turned orange
No one quite knows when... a broom-
Stick held him upright.

Sal voted for him!
She doesnt like change.She frowns
On my dating. Sheesh!

Edward. White as snow?
Or a self-centered person
in pursuit of fame?

He sacrificed,
we think. But he made some calls,
not his to make.

Unless of course, he
spoke the truth, telling all there
is, with no regard.

Security. Privacy.
We want it all officially.
Beautifully, it’s ours.
