Haiku Friday: Baseball!

It's time for baseball season to really begin, now that the snow has all melted (and it has).  You don't have to like baseball-- you just have to haiku about it!

Here is mine:

Twins had a great start!
Exceeded expectations
Until... never mind.

Now you can write one!  Please do.

Comments:
one hundred and eight
red stitches, stretched white leather
two fingers cross seams

Congress to play ball-
Crack! Justice Safety Valve Act;
Falls short of the fence.

Nineteen sixty-nine
I was in the seventh grade
And my team was grand.

Cleon Jones in left
Tommy Agee in center
Swoboda in right

The Mets in that year
Were so amazing a team
All New York loved them.

A League of Their Own,
Bull Durham, 42, and, best,
Bang the Drum Slowly

They nicknamed him "Shorty"
Scrappy little kid who loved
The Cardinals.Fierce!

In between milking
Chores,plowing and school he ate
Slept,dreamt,listened to radio.

The war came and now
Radio sent messages
From Admiral Halsey.

Shocked by the blood of
Midway,Saipan,kamikazes,
Imagined green diamonds.

That kept him going--
Throughout his life... in fear,pain
Self-doubt...there was baseball.

The Nats had a chance
but cleverly sat their ace.
There’s always next year.

Closet Astros fan,
living in Rangers country:
Best to keep quiet.

Nats in town tonight
J. Zimmermann on the mound
Can't wait for first pitch!

Fastball, changeup or
Uncle Charlie; Simply put:
Advantage pitcher!

-Robert Johnson

Twins are disasters,
A nine game losing streak sucks,
Eliminated.

Sal said I should praise
Her beauty.I said baseballs
In her bra--would help.

It was then that a
Pitch came outta nowhere and
Three strikes. I was out.

The National League
is where the Astros belong
Nothing gold can stay.

(nod to Robert Frost)

Listen Osler--

I know who needs balls
And it ain't me. He's lucky
No bat was in hand.

That's one weenie at the park that won't be sampled. Don't bother taking me out to the ballgame,Geoff. You suck!!
