Reflections on the weekend...

The image above is one of several from Bob Kinney's Austin music blog, which ran a great photo-essay on our trial down there last week.  Check it out!

Last week, there were a lot of great haikus (including Renee's excellent entry, which was nearly as good as her hat in church yesterday!), but you really need to see this one from Lilly of the Valley:

In Paris this girl
Smears butter jam on croissant
Sips cafe au lait.

She walks in the rain
Smells violets rhyming jazz
With rose.Old men smile.

Venus in the Louvre
Gives her notions passionfire
She breakfasts on Seine.

He wants to paint her.
"I have no money," she lies.
She feeds him apple.

Comments:
It was an honor to be there. I'm posting my reflections on Wednesday.

Thank you very much,Mr.Osler. I thought you very well might pick CTL for his ingenious use of "snout" and "apotheosis" in juxtaposition in a haiku. Some words do have a kind of "phosphorescence." And others bring to mind the delight of creatures.

Lily of the Valley--

Mr. Olser has indeed chosen correctly. I'm honored that you appreciated my little haiku, but yours was vivid and evocative. One can see and hear and smell the scenes you have painted--that is art.

While breakfast brought out the best in a number of haikuers, I was personally touched by the Geoffrey Mustang Boy effort. That was just outstanding.
