OK, now that you have seen the video, do you see why I say its an anti-war song?
 

Yeah, you've got a point there.

Of course, most Razorites aren't anti-war, they are just anti-kitten.

Perhaps a future post should be on the complete lack of social or political commentary in most modern music today. The 60's featured music with fervent comments on all sorts of issues.

Perhaps rap and hip hop do this, but I don't think the impact is nearly as profound as it was almost 50 years ago.
 

I grew up and always loved Eric Burdon. I remember going to teen dances in corduroy bell-bottoms and paisley shirts with my little sister and moving in a way nice girls didn't,in a not so innocent attempt to attract the members of the band,The Bards. I loved his voice which was rawly male. I remember "Sky Pilot" but perhaps never,oddly,reflected on the lyrics. This video moved me. I remembered losing Alan,trying to convince him in Freddie's Chinese Restaurant in Othello not to go to war.And hearing on my birthday,that he had been blown up in Vietnam as he walked along a trail and his parents sitting graveside in sunglasses which did little to hide their crushing grief. And Duncan,who burnt his draft card on the steps of the federal building in Seattle and who ended up with serious colitis. I remember visiting him in the hospital and clowning around. Duncan got angry and told me he was worried about what would happen to him if he went to prison. IPLawGuy,you are quite correct,the word that entered my head after watching this video was "profound." On a lighter note,I love the image of Himself on the lift,next to the Professor,singing "Sky Pilot" at the top of his lungs. I love it when people just unabashedly unashamedly sing in public. They sing because they have to sing or they will explode. And also because they love to annoy their good friends.

Professor - I must agree with your assertion. I never need to hear this song again.

IPLawGuy - yes it is an anti-war song but I am still trying to figure out why "Sky Pilot". Perhaps it just sounded catchy in 1968 when it was written.
