Marijuana

My take on the new pot laws is now up at CNN-- and featured on the web site's front page! Check it out here.

Comments:
Before I saw your blog post, I went to CNN for my lunchtime news update. Seeing your name right there front and center made me happy. And reading your article made me proud to know you. Thanks for continuing to express your balanced views so well.

An excellent piece. Setting aside the legal arguments, I think the guiding principle for Christians when it comes to public policy should be compassion. We will no doubt disagree about what constitutes compassion on abortion (among other issues), but I don't see how anyone who is guided by that principle could arrive at long prison terms for pot possession.

Congratulations Prof! The commentaries are aplenty and the crazies are almost as fun as the other time your topic drew them all out. From learning about metabolites detection timelines in urine tests, to learning about the vast benefits of biodegradable hemp-based plastics usage versus pollutant petroleum-based plastics and the potential extinction of the ever vexing “paper or plastic” grocery store conundrum, from learning about the existence of federal patent no. 9930507 on all the natural substances contained in marijuana to learning about the cytostatic properties of cannabinoids. I’ve even learned how to make a vaporizer, even though I don’t quite understand how to employ it and I’ve also learned about the dangers of hiring pot smoking babysitters (apparently the guy against pothead babysitters was also against babysitters reading the bible to his kids). And coming to the subject of funny commenters…one Mr. Szarejko surmised that “from the editorial pic you look like a stoner yourself” another one goes on to say that the “author now works for a cookie manufacturer” while Adalberto Cervantes Rodriguez registro su comentario solamente en espanol and if you really liked that fanciful commenter name here is my favorite… “Moist owlet”. Anyway to save the best for last… “the sooner we legalize pot the sooner we bankrupt those scumbag cartels.”
