Good bust, but...

I was fascinated by this story about the arrest of several members of the Zeta cartel. Those arrested in the US (in Oklahoma and New Mexico) were charged with money laundering.

1) So... how hard was this one to figure out? Really? The lead defendant was the brother of the leader of the cartel, and they invested in race horses who had "cartel" in their names. Really. Could it have been more obvious? Maybe if they had named the horses "Cocaine Money Hauler" and "Mare-ijuana" or something like that.

2) How come this didn't get done a long time ago? It seems like the high-living brother of a cartel leader is someone we should have some real surveillance on if he chooses to live in the US.

3) Finally, as I have written elsewhere, I think it would have been far more effective to have done our homework and grabbed the money as it exited our country. That is how businesses fail-- cash flow and credit problems-- not because of a lack of doofy brothers.

Comments:
I think my MOM was in that gang in the 50s... at Albion College The Delta Zeta cartel.

They were a dangerous group. They used to subdue their victims with baked entrees that were covered in Cream of Mushroom Soup and Potato chips.

Pretty sure this is the same gang. They owned the entire black market Aquanet market left of the Mississippi.

make that EAST of the Mississippi.... which woudl be RIGHT of it...

I mentioned they were from ALBION, right?

Geography is hard.

I don't think the brother is going to be eligible for one of those work permits now.

I heard an interview with the NY Times reporter the other day. The family legitimately loves racing quarter horses.

I agree that is was a slam dunk, but then I have no legal background. Don't you think, as a prosecutor, you want to have as much of the 'web' solidified before you move in? Isn't that your best chance at making your case stick?

Mare-ijuana is brilliantly hilarious. Just saying.

Good bust but it doesn't look like Morning and Coronita Cartel will stop hoofing it to the bank.

Other potential names:

Cocaine Blues, Mary Jane,

Seriously. What is our government thinking? Is this our tax dollars at work?
