Haiku Friday: Faith in a nutshell

[click on the picture to enlarge it]

So, for haiku Friday, let's get down to core principles. I know that not everyone has what they would call a "faith," but most of us have some kind of guiding principle, even if we haven't articulated it before. So, let's do that-- boil it down, make it a haiku (more or less), and the winner gets their bio here on Monday.

Here is mine:

What matters the most?
just two things: There is a God,
And God is not me.

Comments:
Haiku for the Anglican Way:

What makes sense of things:
scripture, tradition, reason,
intertwined with love.

Am I the only one who thinks that religion is VERY VERY personal? Yes you go to a church and you worship with like-minded people and you play music or listen to music or whatever and you are kind of united in one thing..

But - your relationship with YOUR GOD is your own. ONLY YOU know what it is and I don't think it is right to dictate to another person to say THIS is what it SHOULD BE and this is what it should NOT BE, and if you don't do it OUR WAY you should get out.

No matter what the issues with your church are, I think, still, deep in your heart you love God and you love YOUR IDEA of God, or YOUR JESUS or your own SAVIOR or whatever.... Not anyone else's idea of that.. but YOURS. To me, religion is very personal.

I think it is OKAY for you to do it YOUR WAY - to love YOUR OWN IDEA of GOD, YOUR OWN WAY. I think you have every right to do that.

SO not a haiku, btw. But I am UNITARIAN. I go to a FIVE SYLLABLE church.... so I may need an extension...

I stake my life on
a God who loves us and who
was, is and will be.

As for what this God asks of us:

Quite simple: Love God
Love one another. All else
is commentary.

Unitarian.
No "God" for me. I made my
my own. Moon was God.

As I got older,
still no god, just light, goodness,
A positive force.

No god, but I try
to help, live a good life. God
would like it, I think.

She wrote it in blood
with the last beat of her heart:
Love you. Love is all.

Nancy's sister, is that true? Mine is this,

He left us riddles
And the One who came after;
Love, reason inform.

Crows swoop in and steal.
We just keep plugging along,
loving and writing.

This is not even an attempt to compete with you, because I can't, but here's (one of) my guiding principles:

You must fall in love
With three things: a person, a
Place and an idea.

love: patient & kind
love: selfless & merciful
love: always triumphs

For God so loved us
that he gave his only son
so we might live free

Faith, hope, charity
But greatest of all is love
Thanks be to our God

God is love, and part
of that is community.
CAPS NOTWITHSTANDING.

This realm dignifies:
All creatures free miracles.
Love's wind whispers: Give.

The love of Jesus
Redemption, comfort, promise
I will take the risk.
MMM

(I was once asked by someone who is an atheist how I would feel if God did not exist and if there was no heaven. Wouldn't I feel stupid for living as a Christian? I said the love I felt and what I gained would still be worth it.

Be yourself, unless
you can be Batman. If so,
always be Batman.

or

Every rose has its
thorn. Just like every night has
its dawn. And just like

every cowboy, sings
a sad, sad song, every rose
has its thorn...guitar.

Faith is personal
Forgiveness, kindness and love
are all essential

It’s all Mystery
Mother, Father, and the Son
Magic: Spirit Holy

I change my vote. RRL wins on SO many levels.

Jesus must wonder:
Reduce me to a T-Shirt?
Or bumper sticker?

-RJ

An awakening-
That fear of going under
But we dive right in.

Faith, hope, and love are
what Jesus left us with so
I choose to believe.

Nothing--NOTHING--can
separate us from God's love.
That's just how it is.

Bright and Beautiful,
the calm of morning reminds
comfort comes in love.

This wheezy old broad is smoking a Camel as she writes this, and doffs one of her outrageous hats to the inimitable RRL. I woke up this morning thinking about Batman and love the way this haiku has so many fascinating, intertwined parts and almost rhymes.More than nice.Exquisite.

I would just like to note - the recurring theme of LOVE in almost all of these Haiku's.

And they say "Love makes the world go round"
