Political Mayhem Wednesday: Super Tuesday and the chance of an open convention

I'm really starting to enjoy this primary season!

Last night I listened to a bunch of speeches and watched the returns come in for the Republican primaries in Ohio, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Vermont, Massachusetts, Alaska, North Dakota, Georgia, Idaho, and the weird-looking state where IPLawGuy lives. Gingrich won Georgia, and Romney and Santorum split the rest.

I'll be honest-- I'm surprised that Santorum is still in it, but the fact he has done so well means that he is going to be in it for a while. He's done some things right, including a real attack on what Romney did as governor in Massachusetts.

You know what is weird? For some reason, Romney had convinced me somehow that his bad old liberal days in Massachusetts was somewhere back in the 80's or 90's. In fact, he was governor from 2003-2007. His comprehensive (and, to my mind, worthwhile) health care plan went into place just five years ago! Yup... the one that is a lot like the one the Republicans call "Obamacare."

It's a long shot, but there is the possibility that there may be a new choice who emerges at the Republican Convention in Tampa this August. If so... who should they pick? Sarah Palin? Dwight Schrute? Who?

Comments:
I was going to say Snow from Maine, but clearly I'm a cock-eyed dreamer. This does seem like a "lesser evil" group of potential candidates, each seemingly trying to out-do each other by pandering to the Tea Party set. Perhaps there will be a "centrist" candidate emerge, one who will convince the Republicans that -- in a democracy -- compromise, negotiate, dialogue and discussion aren't bad words. Until then, fueled by Super PAC money, this will continue until at least the California primaries. And is there really anything left to say in the "debates"?

it's Wednesday!

Picky, picky....

Rubio, McDonnell, Daniels?

Dwight Schrute does give a good speech...

Cubans (living in FL) will not vote for Rubio. Personally I have never been a fan of Rubio from his time in State of FL govt. He has baggage although since he has been in DC he has settled down and tried to stay out of the spotlight.

Let's not count Rick Perry out too soon! If he adopts Cain's 9-9-9 and Bachman's determined gaze he'll be right back in this thing!

It would indeed be delightful to see a wide open convention of any sort. But the need to have a president one can manage seems penultimate, and so I rather doubt it. Nice shot of Tuesday Weld.I like Bob's selection of Olympia Snowe, the woman with the lantern looking for an honest...And I agree with him...one more debate and I will explode, and it won't be pretty.

SCHRUTE!!!!! WE NEED A BEET FARMER IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!

Dwight Schrute: We have three rooms, each with a different theme.

Pam Beesly: What are the themes?
Dwight Schrute: America, Irrigation and Nighttime.

Jim Halpert: I just realized that this is Pam's and my first night away together. I used to play it over in my head, and it was just a little bit different. Maybe a, uh, nice hotel. Or a romantic dinner. Wine, but wine that wasn't made out of beets. Didn't think Dwight would be involved at all, and uh... I always imagined less manure. I mean, some manure, just less.

Jim Halpert: Dwight, how's the hotel business?
Dwight Schrute: Stupid.
Jim Halpert: Have you checked Trip Adviser recently?
Dwight Schrute: No.
Jim Halpert: Maybe you should.
Dwight Schrute: Maybe you should... whatever.
[talking head]
Pam Beesly: We wrote a good review. Under "comments" we wrote, "The natural aroma of the beets drifts into the bedrooms and makes you dream of simpler times."
Jim Halpert: "The dawn goose walk will tug at your heartstrings."
Pam Beesly: "Table-making never seemed so possible."
Jim Halpert: "You will never want to leave your room."
Pam Beesly: "The architecture reminds one of a quaint Tuscan beet farm."

Rudy Giuliani…only he doesn't seem to agree with the trajectory of the Republican stand on a number of issues. Plus he looks to me like the kind of guy who would have a big problem with someone who “almost threw up” when he read Kennedy’s declaration about the separation of state and church.

If its brokered, which is highly unlikely, it will be someone even whackier than the ones on the table. The people who get themselves elected as delegates to such things are pretty committed to their causes.

BTW, what's with the new format for Blogger anyway?

David Brooks: Carrie Willard,Campaign Manager.

Wait a minute! IPLawGuy! Of course! It's genius. He's smart (for a conservative), funny, loves baseball ... I'd vote for IPLawGuy, definitely.
Bob

But... he is kind of obsessed with, you know... IP Law.

Compared to the obsessions of Newt, Mitt and Rick -- THAT'S a problem?!
Bob

I might even be willing to give IPLawGuy some consideration myself, provided he is able to escape the hotel And the car on the ski/road trip unscathed. I think he'd look really good in his fedora or cowboy hat in the Oval Office.
