Political Mayhem Thursday I: Was Tina Fey fair to Sarah Palin?

Here is what Tina Fey has to say about it:

"Some may argue that exploiting Governor Palin and her family helped bring attention to my low-rated TV show," writes Fey of 30 Rock, the NBC show that has struggled in the ratings despite critical acclaim.

Fey's comments appear in her new memoir, "Bossypants," an advance copy of which was obtained by USA Today.

"I am proud to say you are wrong," she continues. "My TV show still enjoys very low ratings. In fact, I think the Palin stuff may have hurt the TV show. Let's face it, between Alec Baldwin and me there is a certain fifty percent of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters."

Comments:
Fey is probably right that her "Palin" duty did not help 30 Rock in terms of ratins. On the other hand, the Palin work certainly did not hurt in making 30 Rock an insider favorite, keeping it on the air despite low ratings, and winning a slew of Emmys for Fey and the crew (over more important and higher quality shows).

Totally fair. Palin's a controversial public figure so if she is going to dish it out, she has to be willing to take it as well.

30 Rock won Emmys for Fey and the crew over more important higher quality sit-coms????

The unbelievably great show that 30 Rock overshadowed awards-wise was The Office, which was clearly the stand-out sitcom of the era (the one we will be talking about 30 years from now in the same vein as MASH, Taxi, Cheers, Seinfeld, etc.).

It was more than just the Fey-Palin juggernaut, it was also because show folk love shows about show folk. But the Palin thing contributed.

The Office is pretty awesome. I never really got the 30 Rock thing.

Waco Farmer,
I concede and retract three of the unnecessary question marks.
The Office is definitely better than 30 Rock.

Thanks, Sleepy Walleye. Concession and retraction appreciated.
