Haiku: Homecoming!

Yesterday, IPLawGuy called me up while I was at work because he couldn't remember the name of the song featured above, and wanted to put it on a mix cd for his car. We started talking about things, and he mentioned that there was a big sale on homecoming dresses at the Macy's by his office, and that set us off in a whole other direction of nostalgia. We talked for about an hour just about the old days, then he had to go meet someone at this coffee place near his office called "K Street Perks." Good times.

So, let's haiku about homecoming!

Here is mine:

Dorky suit, bad hair,
But I did have a great time
Dancing to Foghat.

Now it is your turn! The winner gets their bio on Monday. You can haiku on anything even vaguely homecoming-related, of course. The recipe is 5 syllables/7/5. Go!

Comments:
That IPLawguy
Will look great in a gown!
Homecoming King!

Football uniformed,
Escorting the H C Queen,
Had to look so tough.

Saturday's big dance
Will I be a wallflower
I hope not. One day...

Autumn equinox
A dance I never went to
except in my dreams

Will someone ask me?
Silent whispers throughout school
Hopes dashed, yet again

I was such a geek
Someone asked, How was the dance?
Just like sugar plums

My date was a bear!
(I am from Minnesota)
Terrible dancer.

I would note that IPLawGuy's homecoming adventures are still the stuff of legend-- in fact, I'm pretty sure that he is not allowed within 500 feet of the parade, even now.

Mom didn't know why
I didn't wear the dress more.
Terrible secret.

I was IP"s date
And vow vengeance until he
Returns my silk scarf..

Fall, Minnesota,
Marching in the band all day,
Stairway to Heaven.

Bigger in Texas
True of my hair and her mum
But nothing like this

Dance was fine, but then
Stroh's going down like water
Threw up on my date.

Making floats but not floating.
She's too smart and scares boys.
Still,once in silver,reigns.

Her hair like mountains
Of lacquered crags defies touch.
So he scales her lips.

Face like a pizza,
Hair like toothbrush,he lets
His Choc'late eyes talk.

Lovely work today,Christine!

Bought a mum. Now what?
Here, daughter, can you fix it?
Turns it beautiful.

Anticipation
Helmuts glisten on the field,
First and ten... Go North

Achingly poignant
Short days, even longer nights
Homecoming season.

MMM

Phone call about beer
at Food Lion, not Macy's
Dresses; Sixpence bores me

High School Homecoming
Marching Band on Town's Main Street
But no dances for me.

College Homecoming
Fraternity Float on fire
Fat Kenny NOT ME!

I set one on fire
LAST year, AFTER the parade
Now THOSE were good times!

They called him "Torch"
Alter-ego: "Fat Kenny"
Williamsburg in flames!

great mum for my date
sizeable garter for me
of course, it said "friends"

Christine: ditto Renee's remark. Beautiful.

My home town, you see
