Political Mayhem Thursday: Who is the best former presidential candidate?

It's fascinating to look at the 2008 presidential candidates and check out where they are now.

Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are running again, of course.

Hilary Clinton is Secretary of State.

John McCain is still a Senator (though he seems totally thrown by the Tea Party, as he first tried to win them over, then called them "hobbits.")

Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska, and now seems to be shooting for big-time work as a pundit.

Mike Huckabee has a talk show on Fox News.

Rudy Guliani is making money and apparently out of politics.

John Edwards... hoo boy.

Joe Biden is Vice President of the United States.

Which of them has been most successful?

Comments:
Biden seems the happiest, but Clinton the most successful. The Republicans have all just been biding time.

Biden has the best job. I think even I could be a great vice president. You get to sit in the corner and hear all the decisions being made, and occasionally serve as an emissary to the banana republic known as "Congress". And shake hands and say things that someone else dreams up.

By an American measure of success, Palin is it, though. She's making boatloads of dough. Huckabee's doing all right, too.

I would say all those poor saps who are still running are abject failures, and Clinton just has a hard job.

I didn't know The Onion started covering real news.

I think Hillary has had the most success (doing a real job). Huckabee and Biden seem the happiest with what they are doing.

And well, John Edwards... He isn't bagging grocerys yet at the local Harris Teeter.

Would love to here from Lane on this one! Lane, where are you????

Yes, where IS Lane? And ALL CAPS GUY?

How do you measure success? Happiness? Biden and Huckabee and Palin all seem like happy people. Ron Paul may be happy, but who can tell. McCain isn't suffering from depression and I have NO personal knowledge, but I am sure he's still kind of bitter. Romney does not seem like he's ever happy. Who knows, maybe John Edwards is happy now too. He actually seemed like a happy enough kind of guy. I've heard that Hillary Clinton is actually a very nice and relatively happy person most of the time too.

Money? Well Palin and Huckabee have gotten rich. Romney already was rich. Bill Clinton has made a lot of money, so Hillary should be comfortable.

Power? Hillary Clinton probably has the most power, followed by Biden, but that's not clear. McCain is still influential and if and when the Republicans win control of the Senate again, he will be an important committee chair.

Historical legacy? Definitely Hillary Clinton. Again, McCain may have more chapters to write as a legislator. And he's got an impressive record already. I can't imagine Palin or Paul ever getting elected to anything.... but.....??

Best for the Country? Well, that's super-subjective. But in my view Hillary Clinton has been a good Secretary of State for the President. The others have either focused on self-interest, the next campaign or their television shows. So I am going to go with Hillary.

i've been asking about lane, mostly about the absence of lane, for a couple months now...
still yet to receive any knowledgeable response as to his whereabouts.

I vote for Dennis Kucinich, because every day that he is able to avoid being recaptured by the aliens is a great success for him.

Lane went into a job situation where... well, you know.

RRL & Woody: Did you guys really purchase Scruffy's? If so, can I come over there next week when I am in Waco, as long as I promise not to Schnupp while I am there?

Mark - thanks for the Lane update. Notices his blog is also gone. Tell him we have been asking about him.

The answers to your questions are yes, and yes. In fact, we demand your presence and we demand you not micturate on the bar, though in the event such things were to happen it would kind of be awesome.

Whoa! You guys BOUGHT a bar!?! That is so cool. I really liked that place when the Prof finally introduced me to it... a week before he moved from Waco.

You know what I'm thinking, Prof. Osler... The last one was at the Masonic Temple, and that was just wrong. But Scruffy's is the place to do it....
