Because the Night

I had always wondered about the strange collaboration between Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith, but after reading her memoirs, it makes more sense-- they both are from New Jersey, and started their careers in New York at about the same time.

This one is more recent:

And with some other guys:

Oddly, I think the most powerful version is the one where she is nearly alone...

Comments:
1970's Bruce was TOTALLY different than what came after "Born in the USA"... or even "The River." I rarely listen to those records, but the vinyl on first four have been worn through. As have my bootlegs from the 70's. The Live in London CD from 1975 is amazing and highly recommmended.

"Come on now and try to understand,
The way I feel when I'm in your hands..."

Those lines alone are enough to make this a great song. Yum!

Okay, this song has always been on the playlist of my concert whenever I make to the bigtime. My kids always know when it's on the iPod and they indulge me. (Such nice Greek boys.)

Someday, I need to meet those nice greek boys!
