Osler's Razor

That's a tough one, seeing as the only folks with an axe to grind were the religious leaders, not the Romans. If I think of something witty between now & then, I'll holler back. ;)
 

I think the greatest problem that the Jewish rulers of His time had was that Jesus was attacking their traditions. Those traditions had given them a lot of power. By undermining their traditions, He undermined their power.

In fact, that seems to be the reason why most religious martyrs were killed. Consider Jan Huss, William Tyndale, Joseph Smith, etc.
 

Um...last i recall, the Guy was being accused of claiming to be the King of Jews. Which coincidentally enough, was supposedly expected (per the prophecy and what not) to lead the Jews and free them from the oppressors. I suspect you can tack on treason, inciting an uprising, and a few minor crimes punishible by death at the time such as: Claiming to be King when there was already a dude in charge in Rome, having people follow him around rather than that guy in Rome, mocking the guy in Rome by riding in on a donkey, etc etc.

While we may have the right to spit at our guvment, he didn't and just for being himself he was in violation of a few things.
