The Razor Net

When I started this blog, it was for my students. Right now, being between jobs for a bit (actually, I am working on my class outlines for St. Thomas, so I guess I mean between sets of students), it is interesting to ponder who is on the blog.

From what I can tell, it is a mix of former students, friends, long-lost connections, and a few people (ie Tyd) that I have never met. So... who are you?

Comments:
We never met when you were at Baylor, but we corresponded via email and have many mutual friends...

As a lowly Baylor undergrad I have never had the privilege of taking one of your classes--but I have learned a great deal from you all the same. I have encountered your heart for people and communities first hand, and deeply admire your advocacy and sentencing work. Your book and your lectures also opened my mind to a new way of thinking with respect to the death penalty.

A neighbor from your youth and the home of the 'talking' porch. I think I fed the family cat when you went on vacation.

A very grateful BLS student.

I graduated Baylor Law with RRL and Dallas ADA. I never took any of your classes, although I had the misfortune of asking the court to take judicial notice of the laws of physics in my big trial, which you were observing. RRL and I actually debated together while undergrads at Baylor for the Glenn R. Capp debate forum, where he had much practice refuting arguments from Lane clones and/or wannabes.

I am a law student at a different law school. Friends of mine went to BLS. We have never met, but I am a big fan of you and sentencing guideline reform.

I'm a colleague from the tower across the highway and a big fan of haiku Fridays.

Former Student! Sad that I couldn't learn more form you before you left!

Former student, current secret admirer.

Oh shoot, guess it ain't a secret anymore.

An incoming student at BLS who found the blog while googling Baylor. Sadly, you left before I could meet you!

I AM THE ILLEGITIMATE CHILD OF NEWT GINGRICH, RUSH LIMBAUGH AND HILLARY CLINTON!!

WHAT?!?!?!!

I'm grumpy.

I was taking a nap in the production room at WCWM and you woke me up to learn how to use the equipment

Former student.
Current friend.
Future biographer.

Former student and protoge.

Now that I think back on it, you have my PC partner to blame. He e-mailed me a link to this blog, I saw something interesting, commented... and just kept commenting. And commenting.

I think I'd already been in your classes for a year before I found out about the blog.

Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out... But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.

I also am a Federal Prosecutor with many same powers as Aquaman.

I remember you from HS but you would not remember me because I was a lowly Freshman/soph when you were a Jr/Senior I was more friends with your brother, who I knew and was in plays with, etc etc since 7th grade. He and I were in the same grade.

I actually stumbled across this blog when I was looking for him. I was now married to a guy who made guitars, and played a lot and we knew a lot of professional musicians. For some reason your brother crossed my mind and I remember he was a great drummer even in middle school and I wondered if he had ever done anything with his music.

SO I googled him and I found you instead. I knew you were his brother. I remember you from HS when you wrote for the paper - these hysterically funny things.

So... I started snooping on your newly minted blog, because I was having no luck finding him and why not? It was entertaining - at least the parts I could comprehend. I guess I embraced the drivel, recipes, and repressed memories portion, and less of all of that "legal mumbo jumbo." I made a few cryptic comments, and then finally just told you I was really looking for your brother. I stayed anyway.. and would occasionally make inane comments, as I am not a lawyer nor a law student .... Just a weirdo looking for your brother.

THEN my house exploded... and thanks you to and your friend IPLAWGUY we obtained an amazing lawyer, which made a HUGE difference for us. Its a long weird story. Today I am very close friends with Ginger. She was a tremendous help to me during the 32 month long legal ordeal and now is a very close friend. So, no, I guess we have never "met," though I remember seeing you around in HS. I knew who you were, but mostly I was in a lot of classes and stuff with your brother. I also did not stay at that HS and switched to another one later, so that is why I never really knew whatever happened to him. I still have not had any contact with him, but I really just wanted to know if he ever did anything with his music and you answered that.. so.... I never would have guessed that you were now an attorney and professor. I thought you would have become a writer, but I guess you have done that too. I thought for sure your brother would be on tour with someone, living 300 days a year on a bus.

Oh Uhmmm....so It was not supposed to be this long, then?

Yeah so..... Looking for your btoher. House explosion.

I am a random Waco resident/Baylor alum who stumbled on your page from a link on the Wacoan website. I had heard about you from an article about your blog in The Lariat and learned more from the Wacoan article in which you were deemed "Wacoan of the Year." I love good, thought-provoking writing (and also the fun stuff), so I consequently got hooked on your blog. I appreciate the daily posts because few of my favorite bloggers seem to write enough. Oh, and I sort of met you in the Wacoan office when you were dropping off your recorder for the Starr interview. :)

Former student and colleague. Current friend.

I saw the broken ankle -- ouch! Get well soon!!
