Choosing a church in Minneapolis

Having been here for a few weeks, I have gotten down to the serious business of church shopping. Here are some of the candidates-- I welcome your comments and suggestions.

Colonial Church, Edina
Pro: Friendly congregation, park-like setting, Gloer-recommended.
Con: Odd lighthouse type thingee next to church.

Wayzata Favre Temple
Pro: Traditional Sunday Day of Worship, beer, Viking-style women
Con: Not exactly Christian, unpleasant relations with cheeseheads

Minneapolis Friends Meeting (Quakers)
Pro: Gentle spirit, deep roots, meaningful service
Con: Have no idea who Favre is

Bates Davidians
Pro: Based on teachings of Larry Bates, great music
Con: Never sure how many wives the Beloved Leader has, government trouble

Ba'al of America
Pro: Interesting leader (Ba'al), suburban location, lots of parking, attached amusement park.
Con: Too much incense. May be troubling to employers.

Wooddale Church

Pro: Very close to my home
Con: Vague (and possibly unfair) connection to Ted Haggard

Dinkytown Second Temple of Praise Church God Chapel of Dinkytown
Pro: In funky, fun Dinkytown neighborhood
Con: Founded by stoners who created McDonaldland

Comments:
Isn't the Bates Davidian compound in Waco?

Have you considered Asatru? I mean, why go for pretend Vikings when you can have the real thing?

Also, Thor.

I still think it was a big mistake on your part to leave Bates in Waco. Who knows, if left to his own devices, what kind of trouble he will get himself into? Especially now that you are gone and he is solely influenced by Unidentified Woman.

Not knowing Favre is a con?? Seems like a blessing to me.

Favre - defined in Webster's as 'Weekend at Bernie's'. Pretty sure Bernie was dead.

As a former Norseman you know all about Vikings. Just not purple ones.

You should find out where the ZOMBIES go. I'd love to hear their take on resurrection.

My understanding is that all of Bates' handwritten law school outlines are kept by the Bates Davidians in the Holy of Holies room in the tabarnacle, along with six packs of Pepsi, unidentified woman, tubing gear, and a snorkle.

I'm pretty sure that Unidentified Woman is starting her senior year at Wellesley right now.

You live in Minnesota and you're not considering a Lutheran Church? How is that possible?

IPLG, I'm sure his employers have a few choice words to say about Lutherans, like "vandals" or perhaps "miscreants."

Which reminds me! What will Holy Mother Church say about an employee of one of her institutions of higher learning joining one of those upstart Protestant churches? I mean, these guys ran the Inquisition. They have comfy chairs. It is one of their three great weapons.

Not the comfy chair!

You may want to consider:

Wayzata Community Church (UCC)

Mayflower Church in Minneapolis (UCC)

Plymouth Church in Minneapolis (Congregational with a Unitarian leaning (no one is perfect, but "Nature Boy" Ric Flair grew up in this church, "WHOO").

Also, there are numerous ELCA churches.

I would go here:

We Lutherans aren't all bad, we serve great hotdish, have lots of jello recipes, understand the secrets of tator-tots, and were the original reformers. You could pick a worse place to go.

Oh, those Lutherans. I can't say creeds, so it will never work...

As previouly noted, my parents got married in the Plymouth Church recommended by Scott Davis. And they've been married for 52 years, so the people at that church must know what they're doing.

YES!!! Please do not forget that I went to college in WISCONSIN! BELOIT! I knew a LOT of Lutherans!! They were all from Minnesota. They had Hot Dish a lot and ate Leutfisk and were in somthing called LutherLeague which is like Lutheran baseball. OMG You have to become LUTHERAN.

And The Medievalist is correct: they DO know their way around a Tator Tot.

Wayzata Favre Temple!

You only have to attend services a few Sundays a year, drink beer as part of the worship - What's not to like?
