4th on the 5th

Today is a holiday, but it doesn't seem quite right to celebrate the 4th on the 5th..

If we had a new holiday, what should it be?

I vote for "Redemption Day," on which we can all ask for forgiveness from those we have wronged.

Most of us (myself included) would need the day off to have any chance of doing that in one day.

Never work; Americans never admit fault.

You could adopt the neopagan "Wheel of the Year." The holidays are routinely spaced, so there's always one to look forward to, and most of them can be celebrated by bonfires and drinking.

(Now that July's in swing, we get to look forward to Lughnasadh, which is celebrated with bonfires, drinking, and the blessing of the fields for harvest.)

We already have "Redemption Day": Easter.

Yom Kippur for the goyim (us). I shall see if I can get it added to the liturgical calendar.

Tongue in cheek and wisecracking aside, it is a splendid idea and I too would need the whole day (at least).

Did you know that free blacks in the North observed Independence Day on July 5? Frederick Douglass gave a powerful address,"What to the slave is the Fourth of July?" on July 5, 1852.

Go Back In Time Day.
