At random: Stay humble, stay low, blow like Hootie...



That's one bad haircut (on me, on the right). Talk about humbling.

Meanwhile, Tim Woods did a great job describing the "last lecture" for the Waco Tribune-Herald; you can see the story here. Also, as a heads-up, tomorrow's political mayhem Thursday will be in tribute to Dan Freed (who knew a thing or two about political mayhem).

For today, though, I'd like to share a quote that one of the Hairstons posted somewhere else (apparently a quote from some 80's movie): ""Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life to deal with and love shouldn't be one of them."

True? And, if so, is it true for both love of people and ideas?

On the quote: No, you shouldn't have that kind of love. It's too confusing and you can't do whatever you want. It's easier to care, but not a lot.

It's surprising how many people have that for a bit, but then give it up for more mundane things. I think it is too powerful an emotion for some people to deal with, so they sabotage it.

I believe passion is the essence of life. As a teacher, that is what I try to inspire in my students. Passion brings a purpose to life, a reason for being.

On Monday I was fortunate to hear Jane Goodall speak. She is an amazing woman. Her life is filled with passion and purpose. She challenges and inspires individuals to find their passions and pursue them.

Passions are not always easy to pursue, but definitely worth our greatest efforts.

it comes in waves, sometimes it's a storm and other times calm and serene...
Underneath the movement of the surface is a powerful force that is unstoppable.

I have found that to be true in my life. At times I have had to step back and renew my spirit. After a time I always come back to pursue the passions deep inside of my soul.

From the picture it looks like you are going in for another hit there. You know violence isn't the answer.

On the passion note: I use to think, at least in romantic love, it wasn't sustainable until I experienced it and kept on experiencing it. It has been 6 years and every day is better than the last. As far as the passion in your work thing goes, I have yet to experience it, but my husband definitely has it. I must admit I'm jealous of him in that respect.
