The best way to travel

Today I overheard two kids talking about the best way to travel. Their consensus was that it would be to fly on brooms.

I disagree. That looks incredibly uncomfortable, and I would imagine that if you gained any speed at all there would be a lot of falling off and mess.

As many of you know, I have long been a proponent of the flying car, though even that excellent idea has its naysayers.

So, if anything was possible, what would be the best way to get from here to there?

Comments:
On a wing and a prayer.

I've wanted to ride a magic carpet ever since I saw Alladin in 8th grade (especially if it came with an arabian princess who sang beautiful songs to me).

On foot is the best way to travel in my opinion. You'll never take another ride like the ride you take on the Shoelace Express.

Teleporter.

Hands Down.

Love,
Matt

I'm with Matt. Teleportation.

I'm with Matt and Lane. Teleporter all the way. Pop up to Colorado for an afternoon of skiing, or to New York for dinner. Blink and you're in Liverpool for the next Reds match, or Minnesota to see the Cowboys take on the Vikings.

Or, I suppose if you're worried about splinching, a flying car would be a good second option, but only if you could travel at jet-like speeds and didn't have to conform to skyway restrictions.

I think the worst way might be by "ground plane" or whatever that thing is in the photo.

I find travel by broom to be quite efficient.
Just call me Elphaba my pretty's....

Teleportation! We have to figure that one out. It would be great--every home and business could have a box installed, and then all you would have to do is press in the address of where you want to go, and boom, you're there. No more traffic, no more drunk drivers, no more having to cancel events for weather. You could leave your house a minute before you had to be at work. All the roads could be turned back into forest for hippies like me.

The only thing we would need to figure out is how to prevent people showing up at your home unannounced in the middle of the night. Perhaps boxes should be outside, so people still have to approach and knock?

Sometimes at DFW it feels like I have taken the "ground plane," but sadly it never makes it to the beach, just to decrepit terminal B.

Pretty much any of the vehicles from the Mobile Armored Strike Kommand (M.A.S.K.)would be awesome. Although I was always partial to Condor. http://www.virtualtoychest.co.uk/m/mask/maskcondor2c.jpg

I guess the question is what you mean by "best." If you mean most efficient, then teleportation has to be the answer. There is no other choice. If you mean most pleasing, most enjoyable, or some other qualitative measure of "best", then I would go with car. Then again, that is just because the simple pleasure of driving on a highway in west Texas with not a single other car in sight while any number of legendary rock songs blasts at full volume out of your car speakers is one of the greatest joys in life.

Teleporting in West Texas is fun, too, though. You end up in the middle of nowhere with a mountain lion staring at you.

I think reading is best-- a book can transport you anyplace!

Plus, drugs are bad, m'kay?

I would also like to include Batmobile among the choices of ideal transportation.

Actually I'm going to amend my previous responses and say that the best way to travel is on the back of one of those flying fell beasts that the Nazgul ride on in Lord of the Rings. I'd like to see Baylor Parking Services try to ticket one of those things.

On a bicycle built for two.

A rejoinder to all those who say "teleporter":

I think my choice would almost certainly be helicopter. I was disappointed when a very wise mentor once told me that the only people who can afford helicopters, do not have the time to learn to fly them.

I should note that when I fly in my dreams, it isn't like Superman--instead, I barely levitate off the ground in a seated position.

Even more pathetically, my flying dreams usually involve me using this amazing ability to go around the house doing chores.

Prof - I am sure those around you are happy to see you do house chores - if even in your dreams!
