Livin' Large in the... uh,...
Remember back in 1999, when people were wondering what we were going to call this decade? Well, it turns out that we never did decide.
Great-- now a whole ten years are going to be like that guy whose name you can't remember, where eventually you say "Great to see you!" and kind of back away...

Turn-of-the-century.
It's not just for the 1900s anymore!
Also, the New Gilded Age comes to mind.
As for the upcoming decade, we need something that evokes the wild spirits of the Roaring 20s, like the Growling 10s, or perhaps the Angry Tweens.

It's pretty much been the 9/11 Decade, hasn't it? Except for the first year. So much in the world has happened as a result of that event.
The 'noughts'. In Math terms it means 'zero'
The Decade of Greed or
The Decade we will Never Forget (but wish we could)

I agree with Lane on the turn-of-the-century. In class, I have been using "the first decade of the twenty-first century." It is a bit long and not very slangy--but it works.
FYI: I hate the "aughts."

Random point since some are using the "century" term...But, this century didn't start until 2001. So I'm for turn-of-the-century just as long as the kiddos understand that it didn't really turn until '01.
I say we call it the zeros. (Say it like you have a European accent and roll your R, kinda like Zorro)
