Poetry Cavalcade 2009: Poem 4

Inflection
She gave you that name
And she still loves to say it
A million inflections
Each shade, every tone.
When I hear her say it
A mother's command
(Come here or go there, be quiet or loud)
It's not that she owns it
But gave it away.
