Boxing Day Haiku Friday....

First off, happy birthday to Swissgirl! She is a boxing day baby, and all of us here at the Razor appreciate her contributions here.

As for the haiku... let's do free-form four line poems, with any syllable combination you would like. You can pick the topic, though these might work:

1) The best part of Christmas
2) The gift
3) Swissgirl's birthday
4) The importance of good socks in snowy, cold weather
5) Pan-hellenic relations
6) The UCC
7) European vacations
8) Caesar Augustus and his decree
9) The Spanish Medievalist in winter
10) Sledding

Here is mine:

Two kids run by, laughing
I dodge them deftly
They take no notice
Christmas.

Comments:
My favorite present
This or any year
No toy or game
Just a kiss.

The best part of Christmas?
The traditional afternoon nap!
Bracing, therapeutic, mandatory.
A "deep and dreamless sleep."
RFDIII

Like the proverbial train wreck
It is a sight so horrible
Yet I cannot turn away
Mark's brilliant Christmas Card is here

There are three boxes
Still under the tree
No names, unclaimed,
Keep them 'til next year?

These old socks
Made for a kid
In Florida
No good for skiing.

Yuletide meltdown
Mother-in-law short on Xanax
Look out below!
Next year, Cancun.

Cold out, looks like snow
Seven year old with a Wii
Some days I just want
A Xanax martini.

I drove all day
Got to Dallas late
Found friends and family
That is what is best.

Radio Control Car?
Microsoft Stress Ball?
for Iplawwife & me, a Buddy Holly CD?
My brother gives odd gifts

Grandparents on both sides,
Nephews, Aunts, Uncles,
They laugh with Glee,
as my kids open noisy, irritating toys

Swissgirl: girl, girl; girl.
She is. Aging is girlifying
when passions run deep.
Emotion is life advancing.

Santa apparently forgot to bring
Spencer a firetruck he asked for.
Maybe Santa saw the 3 you have?
All I want for Christmas is a job.

Ho Ho Ho.

Microsoft stress ball?
They... really make that?
Perhaps Microsoft is
Smarter than we think.

My pan-hellenic relations
Led to a distressing
Bout of discomfort
Fixed with antibiotics.

Wow I am speechless
A haiku topic just for me, and
Razor recognition?
What great gifts!

Other favorite presents
are the ones I give that others like
A purple cap perks up
My aunt who's sixty-six . . .

Another great gift was
All the family in
My aunt's big kitchen,
Women cooking, drinking wine,

The lone guy
Talking up a storm,
Pacing till the food's done.
And such wonderful food . . .

Barbecue, sweet potatoes,
Corn casserole, foccacia bread
Cole slaw, pecan pie,
North Carolina nectar . . .

The Medievalist has learned
How to drive a snow blower,
Icy drifts of packed snow,
Are no match for 5.6 horses.

Pour Swiss Girl:

Lendemain de Noël...
Laissez le bon temps roulez!
Bon anniversaire!
