The Big Wednesday Discussion

Tomorrow night, I will be on a panel sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha, discussing what will happen with the Obama administration coming to Washington. It's a fascinating topic because there are going to be many changes, as promised during the campaign.

The other panelists are Baylor professors James SoRelle (History), Joseph Brown (Political Science), Stephen Gardner (Economics). The forum starts at 7:30 in the Keyser Auditorium in the business school, which is next to Morrison Hall on Baylor's main campus.

Comments:
There's been a lot of good talk in the news about the potential closing of Guantanamo Bay and the (presumable) transfer of detainees to the U.S. I think it'd be good to discuss what that means for the Court's habeas rulings over the past few years, and criminal rights in general. Like, for instance, how we attempt to undo the damage done by the Gonzales Justice Department's insistence that there is no general right to habeas corpus.

Dr. "Downtown Joe Joe" Brown!! He was one of my favorite undergrad professors. See if you can get him to tell the story about his famous bar fight. It will take approximately 2 1/2 hours to get through the story (Downtown Brown will not be rushed) but it is off the scale for unintentional comedy.

Seriously, Joe Joe Brown is a legend. And a snazzy dresser.

RRL, Were you are that bar where the football coach relieved himself on the bartender last year? (non-sequitor)

I was not there on that night. Very disappointing really.
