News flash: Kids hate clowns!

A new study makes it official-- kids hate clowns. They're scary, for one thing. I've never really understood the clown thing myself; it's like they represent some kind of dark netherworld full of false joy and underlying pathos. Plus, they tend to put too many people in one car, which is unsafe. And balloon animals taste terrible.

The only thing worse than clowns are mimes, and I have often thought that if you want a highly-rated reality show, just have clowns fighting mimes to the point of debilitation. If nothing else, it might be fun to watch the mimes gloat if they win...

Comments:
Does this have anything to do with your fascination with the Insane Clown Posse and/or the Fruit of the Loom guys?

I like what that researcher in the article said about kids finding clowns "frightening and unknowable." I'd say that's exactly how I felt as a kid and still feel. They give me the creeps.

Mimes don't bother me, but clowns seem sinister.

What's the Insane Clown Posse?

Hey, that was Swissgirl in that last post. I hit the wrong key. not trying to be anonymous.

If that's not scary enough, the hit television show "Wife Swap" will be airing an episode this week chronicling the two week long swap experience between a strict housewife and a family dedicated to their wife/mom's decision to attend clown college (no, not USC or LSU). You can get a preview of the episode here.

That looks like a particularly affluent clown, perhaps one from the LSU clown college.

Clowns creep me out. Especially clown statues with animitronics that talk. Or clowns with chainsaws or flamethrowers, which are also bad. What makes clowns think that a lot of grease paint, plastic noses, and big shoes make people laugh. Don't like clowns. Never have.

Stephen King's It has some of the scariest images I've ever imagined--and they all have to do with balloons or big poofy orange clown buttons. Still, clowns freak me out, but not as much as dolls--especially the blinky-eye dolls.

Man, you all needed to be hugged more as kids. Or you should have had cloth diapers or a different brand of formula or something.

Chill!

They're clowns, big goofy live action cartoon characters. They're men (or women) dressed up in stupid outfits to make us laugh.

That's it.

Stop overlaying your Freudian concepts from Psych 101 on top of this and get over it. Relax, laugh, or turn your eyes away and watch the juggler or the monkeys instead.

Even with the colour of orange being my favorite, I am "creeped out" by these clowns. I do not enjoy the labour of these disturbing persona, and I am not inclined to the flavour of bananna cream pie, especially in my face.

Best movie ever about clowns is that one with Bobcat Goldthwait.. SHAKES the CLOWN... A MUST SEE.
Robin Williams has a small part as a mime instructor... In the movie, the mimes and the clowns are at war.

Nothing scarier than a clown. seriously
