The Worst (yet still somehow popular) Song Ever

Today in the arbitrations we are doing for practice court, I found my mind wandering to horrifying moments from past exercises. It was kind of like having your life pass before your eyes, but only the weirdest parts. There was Nordstrom asking the jury panel about their paint-huffing experiences... the big trial which devolved into a girl-fight... and then I remembered it-- the worst song ever entering the realm of practice court.

It was the closing of a lover's-quarrel criminal case. In rebuttal, the prosecutor turned to the jury and said "This violence is what can happen when love ends. It is like the song says: 'I'm all out of love. I'm so lost without you....'" He then recited from memory several more lines of the song.

It still gives me the creeps.

Comments:
Actually, Eye of the Tiger by White Lion is the worst popular song ever. So there.

No-- its "PYT" by Michael Jackson.

Eye of the Tiger is a terrible song, but it was recorded by Survivor.

White Lion's worst song has to be "When the Children Cry", but there is a lot to choose from...

I loathe Unchained Melody. Cannot stand it. That is the worst song ever.

Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. Every girl in my 7th grade class LOVED it. I thought they needed to listen to more Zeppelin

Livin' Lovin' Maid by Led Zeppelin-- worst. song. ever.

Great story Osler! Someday I'll have to post the worst audition moments over at Unexposed Granite.

No, no, no. "I Touch Myself" by the Divinyls is the worst song ever. Putting aside the premise that makes you want to immediately scrub yourself down with lye and then become a nun, the singer puts that annoying glissando in every chorus that sounds like she killed a cat at the same time. "When I think abooouuu*cat screaming*uuut you..."

Very Bad songs:

The night the lights went out in Georgia by Vicki Lawrence

The night they drove old Dixie down.

Sweet City Woman

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

The Night Chicago died.

You Needed Me by Anne Murray.

Delta Dawn by Helen Reddy

Gypsies Tramps and Theives by CHer

Knock Three Times by Tony Orlando

Oh no. I liked a whole lot of the ones y'all mentioned, especially Tyd's. And "Seasons in the Sun" and even "Livin Lovin Maid." Just confirms that I'm a dweeb, huh?

But I do draw the line at "I Touch Myself," except I thought Joan Jett sang it.

"My Humps."

End of discussion. It never freaking ends...and that horsie sure isn't a lovely lady 'lump, either.

--Puffalump, offended

Tyd--

Sorry, but The Band's version of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down was great.

The worst song ever might be My Humps, though.

I agree that the worst song ever is my humps. But, it was entertaining when someone's phone started playing it in T&E.

Tyd- The night the lights went out in Georgia is a great song.

I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston. That, and the song fron Titanic by Celine Dion which I can't remember.

Horrible, simply horrible - please make the pain stop.

I agree with most of Tyd's list, other than (as already mentioned) "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down."

Joan Baez' version is pretty horrible, however. So maybe she meant that.

But "Livin' Lovin' Maid"??? I am an admitted Zeppelin freak, but even I will admit they had some clunkers. The entire "In Through the Out Door" Album should be buried. "Going to California" makes me cring because I hate hippy dippy crap, but Livin' Lovin' Maid ROCKS!!!! It has a great hook and features a blazing Page guitar solo.

--I once saw NRBQ do Edmund Fitzgerald COLD, from sheet music. It was hilariously horrible.

I like many of the mentioned songs, other than "my humps."

Arbitrations in PC!? Is the constitutional right to a mini-trial being undermined by binding arbitration clauses not too?

Is there any way for an alumni to obtain a syllabus for each of the PC courses? They would be like CLEs without the credit!

If so, please email to the address, below. Thanks!
