One more thing about the ending of The Sopranos...

Like a lot of other people, probably, I have been re-watching the ending of the last episode of The Sopranos, and the more I see it, the more I like it. Not that I was ever a big fan of the song they used, "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey (though I did like the way they episode ended with the word "stop"). The first four lines of that song are:

Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere...
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere...

If you are from Detroit, you know that the line about being from "South Detroit" is either an inside joke of some kind or the result of not knowing much about Michigan. There isn't a "South Detroit," because the city is shaped like a crescent. The Detroit River cuts the southern border of downtown-- if you go south of downtown, what you get to is Windsor, Canada, not South Detroit.

Comments:
I just figured Journey wouldn't sell them the rights to "Wheel in the Sky."

Actually, picking a lame song like that fits the whole Chase M.O. -- it guarantees controversy and debate.

BTW, what's on sale for these always low prices?

IPLG--

The prices are ALWAYS low!

I heard that song on the radio yesterday and wondered "What would Osler think about the Detroit line?"

Thanks for answering my subliminal question.

Tracee's death ruined the Sopranos for me. The Kinks' "Living on a Thin Line" was a well chosen farewell:

Now another century nearly gone,
What are we gonna leave for the young?
What we couldn't do, what we wouldn't do,
It's a crime, but does it matter?
Does it matter much, does it matter much to you?
Does it ever really matter?
Yes, it really, really matters.

Who was Tracee?

Osler is right the only thing south of Detroit is WIndsor... unless youcount downriver like Grosse Isle. Zugg island, Wyandotte and the like.

I was friends with a guy who became the Mayor of Trenton...(initials WS) back in my hardcore GOP days... LONG over.... He for a while did a "Trenton Motto Contest." My vote was "Trenton -You'll Smell it Before You See It."

That did not win the contest... But I am still friends with the twp supv of Grosse Isle (initials DJ) or at least the one before the one they have now. The one they have now (KK) I went to Cranbrook with. We had a LOT of classes together. NOT NOT NOT Not a nice guy. Yuck.

TO show incestuous all those GOPs are: the former Mayor of Trenton I knew was an architect, who married a lawyer. That Lawyer was a partner in the firm of the current mayor of Grosse Isle that I am not fond of. SO to recap I am still friends with DJ a lawyer, who is no longer mayor of Grosse Isle, who is friends with WS (former mayor of Trenton) who is married to DJ's political opponent and the current mayor of Grosse Isle, KK.

GOt it?

I somehow doubt they read the Razor.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz why do I post on here? I must put people to SLEEEEEP

Tyd,
Tracee was the stripper who Ralphie was dating/abusing, got pregnant and then murdered. Do you remember her?

I am very open minded when it comes to artistic expression. I believe that most television violence or sexual situations are more ridiculous than harmful, (kids are a different matter of course) but with her murder the show turned a corner that I could not follow.

For non-Detroiters-- Grosse Isle is a different place than Grosse Pointe.

And, um, Tyd, when you say you were "a G.O.P." do you mean that you were a Republican?

It is hard to beat the Family Guy rendition of that song...

This also sounds like the opening lines from "The Night Chicago Died"

"Daddy was a cop, on the East Side of Chicago"
- the "Eastside" of Chicago would be Lake Michigan! Or maybe they meant the lakefront!

Yes... I was Vice President of the Young Republicans in Wayne County for like 6 years and very involved in all of that. Then I married a Democrat and moved to CA then OR and I still follow stuff but honestly I have given up. I mean I still vote et all but I think the wart is horrendous and GWB is a complete idiot and I actually voted for KERRY last time and I truly thought that when I did that the world might actually stop spinning...

I kept all the GOP friends from Mich, I love them all so much and I love to hear all the gossip and stuff but I am no longer interested in it. I still vote of course, and I may get into it again later but being a pro choice Republican is like banging your head against the wall. They all used to say "Well, its a BIG Umbrella.." but I knew it was BS. I worked on HUNDREDS of campaigns... and after a while you just get jaded. Spencer ABraham, Ronna Romnay, Deb WHyman, a lot of local races stuff like county commissioner and state senate and stuff like that It s the LITTLE races that really make the difference... a lot of people do not know that.... I mean people sign up to you know work with like AL Gore or whatever but you can REALLLY make a difference in small local races. Then I got sort of good at working at campaigns I sort of started to get hired and not volunteer. The money was pretty okay but I started to have to work for people who were just too conservative and it was weird. I felt like I was getting paid to like help people who were against everything I believed in. SO then I got picky about who I worked for, and then I got married and then I just left. There were just like wall to wall Republicans at my wedding. hahahah Most of them are not freaks... a LOT of them are my really good friends, but there are some real weirdos like every party.
