Check out the good writing...

The comments this week over at On Rhetoric were really great.

Mr. Stokes requested that he get extra credit for connecting up Martha Stewart and the A-Team in one comment. What do you think? Should he get it?

My response was that he could only get extra credit if he then connected it up to Danny Elfman of Oingo Boingo. IPLawGuy, for one, could do it easily. Well, if he wasn't so crabby, he could.

Comments:
I'm here in LA, home of Danny Elfman, and the place where they filmed A Team.

I do notice that there are lots of rhetoric writers or at least writers here in L.A.

OK, I read the post. No, he doesn't get extra credit, because he asked. This violates the rule of cross examination.... never ask that one last question... let the jury ask it in their collective minds. Show them the evidence and let it tell the story for you.

Which is similar to the way Danny Elfman crafts his songs. For instance in "Only a Lad," we know that the protaganist is indeed "only a lad," but he's also very naughty, if not evil. But Elfman only cites a couple of incidents. That's enough, however, we know.

Another example we could draw upon is B.A., as played by Mr. T in the A Team. B.A. was unquestionably the strongest and most agressive member of the A Team, but he was not the leader. Why? He pushed too hard. He "pitied the fool," instead of letting the viewer "pity the fool." He should have made it clear that the fool was worth pitying, but not actually done so.

"He "pitied the fool," instead of letting the viewer "pity the fool.""

So, so true.

Is that picture from D.C.? When I was there this past summer there would be building protests and if you were lucky they also brought the rat.

He violated show, don't tell. Besides, if anyone gets extra credit, it should be Dez for telling a funny joke.

I did the linking. It even incorporated George Clooney.

Y'know, for the ladies.

Hey, is that the BLS "gummy bear" statue? Did someone steal our statue?

I hate Martha Stweart I used to find her just annoying. Now I seriously despise her... she is SOOOO fake and stupid and awful Now for cooking stuff I ONLY watch The Food Network. Mostly Barefoot Contessa, Everyday Italian, Ellie Kreiger, and a few others.

I also cannot stand Rachel Ray and even OPRAH is getting on my nerves. I only like ELLEN now. I just really TIvo shows I like and watch only those.
