Hello, "Wintery Mix!"

Waco has shut down, but for the people running around in the streets screaming and waving their hands over their heads. .003 inches of snow fell last night, and ice has been detected in places other than frozen margaritas, facts which send people in this part of Texas into full panic mode. Driving is verboten, and newspapers are not delivered; tomorrow schools (other than Baylor Law School) will doubtlessly be closed, and as shown in the photo, my red barn has been photogenically transformed.

Hopefully, people realize that it is unlikely that Baylor Law School will close due to weather. And if it does close, at least on two occasions, practice court has continued even as the rest of the school wasn't operating...

Comments:
In my 2Q, we had a solid sheet of ice on the ground, and of course, I waited, hopeful for an email from the Dean saying the school was closed. None came. So, I spent the 20 minutes de-icing my car, and another 20 minutes on the 5-minute drive. Entering the parking lot, who did I see but Bill Trail in his little green Miata, heading for the house. School closed. But I'm fairly sure that PC carried on.

5 inches of snow in the Twin Cities today. My 20 minute drive to work took 22 minutes.

My real dillema is that I just noticed that I misspelled "Spartan" in my last entry. No wonder I needed to start my education over after 5 years at Michigan State.

Nice barn Mark.

Walleye--

I just assumed that was your way of stopping the Michigan State campus police from finding you on Google, much as I was hiding from Bawbie Knight.

I'm jealous of your snow. I'll be up there the first week of March; will the snow still be around?

I can still hope for Baylor Undergrad to close, riiiiiiight?!

If only I had known that it was merely the Osler barn I've been at for the past two weeks! Then I wouldn't have done all that flying when I could have just driven across town. So then the naked bonfire must have been out by your mailbox...

Help. We're trapped in the Osler Barn. I was fooled into thinking Waco was in Texas and it was warm and sunny. So we left the East Coast for a little winter vacation.

Trust me, although scenic from the outside, the barn looks nothing like this from the inside. There are live crickets in here, for goodness' sake!

As for the weather, even in Washington, DC, this "wintry mix" would not be considered a major storm. Planes would be flying and commerce would not be adversely effected.

Of course, back home in Washington it's sunny and in the 60's today.

Fortunately, the Prof. has food and drink and the IPlawbaby has plenty of diapers and formula.

Maybe my firm would like a Waco satellite office...

Yes, Waco has gone into panic mode. Anytime the precipitation is solid, life in Waco takes on a surreal quality best captured, perhaps, by Salvador DalĂ. As long as IPLawBaby has a well-stocked larder within the Osler Barn, things will be ok. By the way, IPLawWife is a killer Scrabble player. How did she get "antidisestablishmentarism" on the triple word score anyhow?

Osler... is that really your BARN? How cool that you have a BARN!!!!!

Tyd, if you think that the "snow" here in Waco could even pile up to half of what's pictured in the photo, you've been hanging around Reed College way too long.

As noted previously, even in Washington, DC, one of the wimpiest cities in the nation when it comes to snow, this thin sprinkling of sleet would hardly be noticed. In Michigan, you'd be thinking that summer was on its way and that you might want to break out the barbecue grill.

There is a structure out back at Maison D'Osler, but as far as I know it contains no livestock, feed or farm equipment. Just a badger. And it's not red.

And barns are for farmers. These Texans, they're ranchers.
