PMT: Education and politics
Most (though not all) Americans thing a college education is a good thing, and that an educated population is something we should strive for.
The above chart lists the percentage of people in each state who have a college education. It rolls pretty much the way you would expect, but there is something striking there once you look for it.
The left column (more educated) is almost all blue states. The right column (less educated) is almost all red states. The correlation is remarkable, to the point that it can't simply be coincidental.
This, I suspect, is an important driver of our national divisions.

As a blue voter who has lived her life in red states and mostly made her living working in higher ed -- I am not at all surprised that blue states have a higher percentage of college-educated citizens than red states. What are the results? The data overwhelmingly show that the higher your level of education, the better quality of life you have, across all parameters. (Example: https://www.luminafoundation.org/news-and-views/life-is-better-for-college-graduates-in-50-ways-poll-finds/) And blue states tend to give their residents a better quality of life than red states.
