A Hockey Surprise
It's not a good idea to put too much stock in pre-season polls (I.e., Clemson football 2025), but this one is pretty surprising to me, at least at the bottom. St. Thomas, which was D3 just a few years ago, is apparently ranked ahead of Wisconsin (not to mention, um, Colgate and Harvard).
We have a new arena going up in the middle of the St. Paul campus, which is going to be pretty nice by all reports. It's not that big, but neither is St. Thomas. I like it when an arena fits the school that way. Don't get me wrong-- I love the Yale Bowl, for example, but Yale football doesn't really need a 61,000-seat stadium (though apparently it did in 1913-14, when it was planned and built).
