Political Mayhem Thursday: The problem of being a little correct
We're living in sad and divisive times. It's really not much of an observation to say that, of course-- it is the starting point for discourse for almost everyone on both sides lately.
On thing that has come with that is that we are generally unwilling to concede that the other side can be even a little bit right. For the MAGA masses, it is hard to concede that Joe Biden did anything right. I hear interviews with people talking about how terrible things were in, uh, 2024 and it just doesn't make sense. But the commitment to the bit is total. It's like because there might have been a trans player on the second place team in the fifth best conference in women's college volleyball, the whole country had just gone to hell.
There were, of course, things that Biden did that the MAGA people should have liked. For example, he was supportive of Israel in their conflict with Hamas, to a degree that troubled some (though not all) Democrats. But it is contrary to their nature to grant even a small concession.
And we Democrats have the same nature. I know I do. I was driving along and heard RFK Jr. talk about the need for healthier school lunches. I nodded in agreement, then caught myself-- he is so wrong about other things!
We need, perhaps, to see that common ground.

And when Michele Obama advocated for healthier school lunches and installed an organic garden at the White House she was a bad person. If we are going to feed kids in school it should be healthy food no matter who is running the country. And given we are no longer shipping food stores to Africa there should be plenty of frains available.
