Haiku Friday: The vegetables of summer we long for

This time of year, I start thinking about summer vegetables and farmers' markets. It's not that I'm a vegetarian or anything, but I still get in a mood for greens.

When I was 16, I spent some time harvesting peas in Washington State, driving a big combine like the ones pictured above. It was a fascinating job, and I ate a lot of peas.

Let's haiku about vegetables today. Here, I will go first:

The scent of cut stalks
And rich loamy soil beneath
Essence of summer.

Now it is your turn! Just use the 5/7/5 syllable recipe, and have some fun!

Comments:
My Edadame
tomatoes, onions, radishes
Did not grow last year

Sweet red tomatoes,
Grown in the back yard garden,
Dreaming of childhood.

Rutabaga, leeks
Brussels sprouts, arugula
turnips,peepers,chard

cauliflower,kale
parsnips,scallions,zucchini
eggplant, broccoli

cabbage were slipped
into delicious dishes
I guess I like them

Orbs, of red, ruby
flesh plump, satiny and warm
ah...Kissed by the sun

Oh, farmer's market!
I miss your bags of spinach
fragrant basil, corn

Tiny, orange and
So very sweet, like candy.
Cherry tomatoes.

Stores just don't sell those tiny orange tomatoes. I get them at the end of the street at a Betty the Corn Lady's farm stand. Delicious to eat raw, or make a tart. Yummm
