Trump: Exclude all Muslims
So… Donald Trump has now called on the US to bar all Muslims from entering the United States until we "figure out what is going on."
According to the New York Times:
Mr. Trump, who in
September declared “I love the Muslims,” turned sharply against them
after the Paris terrorist attacks, calling for a database to track
Muslims in America and repeating discredited rumors that thousands of
Muslims celebrated in New Jersey on 9/11. His poll numbers rose largely
as a result, until a setback in Iowa on Monday morning. Hours later Mr.
Trump called for the ban, fitting his pattern of making stunning
comments when his lead in the Republican presidential field appears in
jeopardy.
Saying that “hatred”
among many Muslims for Americans is “beyond comprehension,” Mr. Trump
said in a statement that the United States needed to confront “where
this hatred comes from and why.”
“Until we are able to
determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses,
our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that
believe only in jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human
life,” Mr. Trump said.
Will this appeal work? Should it?

Sounds amazingly like something some people heard in the early 1930s about another religious minority.
Yes, Mark, this will work. Donald Trump is one smart cookie and knows what buttons to push. The buttons have been constructed over many years by ultra conservative activists /messengers of hate and fear in our politics and churches. Richard Nixon rode to victory appealing to his "silent majority". Smart cookies like Donald are replicating his success. We are all listening and where our bassist emotions lie, we understand.
Our media doesn't get it. The terrorists want attention as does the Donald. They are winning.

Dad, I can't believe it will work! It just seems so… wrong. But you make a good point about the lessons of the past.
Mark The latest polls shows over 70% of republicans and 57% of independents believe that Muslims do not share our American values. Donald is dead square on target and will drive these lame brain ideas to spread. It maybe is time to invest in our defense industries. I am sure the gun merchants are salivating.
It is wrong!
Unfortunately, we admire power and the powerful more than those with thoughtful and complex solutions, especially in these times when we are repeatedly told we are in "weak" hands.
The good news is that at this critical time we have a President that has the patience and the ability to grasp difficult and complex problems. These are not values that our citizens particularly admire. We are a blessed nation that despite ourselves we are in responsible hands.
Patience is our most powerful weapon against ISIS They are doomed as their ideas are weak. Time is on our side.
Donald Trump is well suited to be the republican candidate as he says what the other candidates just have been mouthing. Maybe it is a very good thing.

Trump dominates the polls with his anti-establishment claptrap and adds to his pathologically long list of reasons to be proud: not being a politician. And yet exploiting people’s fears is textbook demagoguery and demagoguery is textbook politician [of the basest kind]. But then as John says Trump is a smart cookie. He knows the herd won’t see it and being the media whore that he is, Trump will ride the “silent majority” wave all the way to the GOP pantheon. And if he wins, then maybe we have become so morally hollowed out we deserve a taste of sacramental smart cookie.
I was listening to Trump speak last night, and it occurred to me that sometimes people feel the desire to be liked by the bully-- to be "in" with him. Trump really cultivates that, too, dividing people into "winners" and "losers"....
All of this … the arrogance, the grandiosity, the splitting (good/bad; winners/losers) ... all the stuff about “my fans” … “they love me” … “the huge crowds”... is so classically narcissistic. No surprise there. And he is not the only candidate with membership to the club; yet he is clearly leading the pack. If that is not bad enough in itself, it is staggering that so many people fall for it … particularly when such a presentation is so completely bereft of awareness or concern about the other … regardless. It is both wrong and sad.
He is giving a WIN to ISIS. And ISIS has killed more Muslims than did the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan. The shooters in San Bernadino also killed Muslims as well as others.
An Idea -- McVey was a military veteran. Perhaps we should ban vets from getting weapons and having access to ammonium nitrate! It makes as much sense as the Donald's proposal!
