Sweet Briar closing?!?
Despite a long history and a significant endowment, Sweet Briar College has announced that it is closing, and soon-- at the end of this school year. Students admitted for next year are going to have to find a different school. That seems a little... abrupt.
When I was at William and Mary, one of our dorms (Jefferson) burned down. Many students lost all of their college possessions, including clothes. I'll never forget the Sweet Briar van pulling up, full of sweaters. It was a very generous outpouring of support! Of course, many of the sweaters were monogrammed, which meant the William and Mary students had to sort through them, trying to find both the right size and the right initials...
