Poems 2012: Saganaga

My father, the artist,
Came back in the boat
We watched from the rocks
Expectant.

His hands beneath the gunwale
To lift something heavy
And then there it was:
As big as my leg.

He laid it on rough wood
Astonishing beauty
Green, and gold, and muted gray meld.

An eagle swung low
Pulled in one wing
Dived closer to see.

The knife, it lay ready
Cleaned in the shallows,
But it was not yet time.

Comments:
Your best to far!

Apropos to nothing, my daughter just finished playing the French chef in a production of "The Little Mermaid." Seeing that fish and that knife just makes me smile.

An artist AND a fisherman. I need to be hangin' near your dad when Everything Falls Apart.
