Haiku Friday: Bob's Birthday!

Yesterday was Razorite Bob Darden's birthday. If you don't know him... well, you should. He is one of my heroes, a mentor, and he and his wife Mary made Texas wonderful for me. Also, he nearly singlehandedly saved the legacy of black gospel music in America. And he plays drums.

Let's wish him happy birthday in haiku!

Here is mine:

Professor Darden,
Teaches the heroes journey
And walks it, as well.

Now, you go! Make it 5 syllables, then 7, then 5, and the winner gets a bio here on Monday.

He taught me, you know,
Though he did not know it then
That's how the best work.

why is he smiling
what does he know that he
isn't telling us

Like the Professor
Wacoan of the Year
Then he left town too

It's bliss to watch him
Play the drums; such joy and heart
Music: It is life.

IPLawguy,

I know! What am I doing to these people? The other one retired.

Megan,

Maybe you need to name an out of towner in hopes that they will move TO Waco.

de doo doo doo de
daa daa daa is all i want
to say to you. de...

(hey, it won last week, thought i'd give it another shot.)

regardless, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB!

okay, here's a real one.

first sunday in (wa)co,
alone in a pew, two warm
folks welcome-- dardens.

in case that didn't make sense, here's the story. i went to seventh and james the first sunday i was in waco, knowing only the 50 or so people from my law school class.
a woman sitting at the other end of the pew noticed i was sitting alone and welcomed me, introducing herself and her husband to me and genuinely affirming that they were happy to have me in the church. it was mary and bob, of course. the first two true wacoans i met outside the law school, and two finer wacoans i could not have met. (well, you're not half-bad yourself, osler.)

A joyous refrain
Clapping and chanting - Amen
Happy Birthday Bob

IPLaw Guy: agreed!

Here's my haiku, and Happy Birthday, Bob!

I called for advice.
He sent two books of his own.
Still mentoring me.

Happy Birthday, Bob! Don't forget to celebrate the entire month. That way,in case the day in question doesn't "come up to snuff," one of those 30 days is bound to be glorious.
