Blagojevich Convicted!
Yesterday, former Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois was convicted on 17 counts (of 20) relating to corruption in office.
For some reason, I find it hard to believe he was ever elected in the first place. How did THAT happen? Am I missing something?
At any rate, it appears that either a Lego character was based on him, or that he is based on a Lego character. Interesting. Of course, I have had my own confused history with Lego guys...

Admittedly, I am inexcusably unfamiliar with this case considering how famous it all is. But, can some informed observer tell me, did he ever do anything more than say he was going to auction off a senate seat? That is, did the prosecution present any evidence of money changing hands or a deal being struck? Or was this all about a conspiracy to do something illegal? Did it ever get beyond Blago saying he had this f-ing thing that is golden and I am not giving it away for f-ing nothing?

As I understand it, only a few of his charges were related to gubernatorial corruption...the rest were for copyright infringement (© 2011 The LEGO Group)and for crimes committed in the course of his work with Celebrity Apprentice.
However, (if history is any indicator) I am probably wrong. I recommend that you read this article to get the real story.
All kidding aside, I would be surprised that Blago was elected if Chicago (and by extension Illinois) did not have the long, sordid political history it does.
