Matt Baker found guilty...

I have read all of Erin Quinn's blog on the Waco trib site about the trial and I have to say that I feel the defense did nothing to change the mind of the jury or the public. Seriously, nothing. I also think the jury must have gone into this presuming guilt. Yes, he looks guilty but was there anything that proved it? If I missed that, please let me know. Not being an attorney, it is hard for me to say, but this seemed to be a bit quick.
IPLG-- Baptist minister convicted of murdering his wife here in Waco. Primary evidence was testimony of minister's girlfriend, who said he told her all about it.
Anon 11:29-- I've been actually watching the trial in the courtroom and I would definitely agree with you about the defense not doing much to change their minds.
How about some commendation for Baylor 3L Garrett Pennington, who was allowed to not only assist the prosecution, but question witnesses today in the sentencing proceeding?

Congrats to Garrett! Here's hoping for another fine Baylor prosecutor. Thor knows the profession needs more of us.
Anon, what do you mean by "proved it?" If the 12 people of the jury believed the testimony of the witnesses, what more proof is necessary? I agree: life would be nice if it were like CSI or Law and Order, where criminals are stupid and leave behind trails of evidence, but in the real world, lots of times all victims have is their stories, and it takes good prosecutors like Mr. Long, whom I have worked for, and Mr. Pennington, whom I hope will be a comrade one day, to make sure victims get heard and believed.

Very sad. Pray (I know that people misuse that word quite a bit, but seriously pray) for all of these people.
