Poetry Cavalcade 2009: Poem 6
In the Kitchen
Before you cut a thick cord
You must sharpen your knife.
And before that,
Choose a blade wisely:
Thick is for power, thin is finesse.
And before that,
The hardest of all
Is opening the drawer
Full of blades, a thick tangle
Pointed, serrated, remembered;
Perhaps a bit of history
I remember that
Quick and sure,
Quick and sure.
