Sunday Reflection: On Buying Stuff
Is it against the teachings of Christ to be rich?

So you basically don't think it is bad as long as you skip the Jesus sections. Enjoy reading about the Ark and Goliath! The gospel sections are just buzz-kills in general.
Being neither religious nor rich, I don't know, but I do find it kind of crass when people pray for money.

Justin T. summed up my beliefs on money pretty well. Greed can cause a man to fall from his walk with God just as much as booze, chicks, or those awesome little baby carrots...ohhhh, carrots...BID. Money isn't inherently bad, just don't let it cause you to stumble.
Tyd--the only time I'd pray for money is if I was struggling just to get any...at all. And struggling to get by. Now, a person living comfortably praying for more money--that's kinda crass. But if they know they're going to have a kid, or have to deal with some big bill coming up, praying for money seems...normal. Almost expected.

I think it all depends on what you do with your riches and where your heart is. If you use your riches or seek riches to feed the hungry and clothe the naked, then you're doing exactly what God would want you to do with your riches.
But if all you're doing with your riches is hoarding them in bigger and bigger barns while the Lazaruses of the world suffer outside your gate, then I hope you like the heat.

yeah I meant you know being greedy about it Like if I ever prayed I woudl pary about stuff I could not do much about like Cancer or sickness of the health of a friend this kind of thing. I would never pray to like win the Lottery or something Some people pray for stupid stuff like a new Mercedes or whatever its bad.
I remember while growing up my Sunday School teachers always made a big deal about the difference between "money" and "the love of money." I think thats a good way to look at it.
Agreed. But based on the evidence I've seen in this world, having money but not loving it appears to be impossible. Wealth is a cruel demon, elminating all needs accept the deep need not to lose it.
